The guys played to a packed Olympia theatre in Paris and what a great show it was. The lights  and sound were brought in especially from Brussels and for the finale an extra musician and four singers were added to make it a spectacular to remember.

Baby I Know on TOTP

Back in 1977 there was only one show in town. TOTP.
If you weren’t on there, you were nowhere.

‘Baby I Know’ was a crucial release for the Rubettes. Their record contract was up for renewal and they needed a big hit. So, there was a lot riding on their TOTP appearance Feb 3rd 1977.
The record had received airplay on Radio One which generated enough sales to place the band just outside the Top 50
It’s enlightening the impact that TOTP had. The band quickly moved up to # 22.
More appearances followed (4 in total) and the record continued climbing upwards. #17 then #11  before finally peaking at #10.

Of course, you have to have a good song. You need to be able to play and enough people have seen the band perform 100% live over the years to know they are all very good singers indeed. Consequently the Rubettes are still going strong all these years on.

I enjoyed seeing the clip again. This time on my widescreen tv. It seems a lot of other people did too. For a brief time the Rubettes were ‘trending on twitter’ … whatever that means
